Cali-Bound

KayKrew is headed to Cali! I'll be in California for a few days for FIDM's 3 Days of Fashion Summer Program, so I'm taking this time off from the blog, but will be back next week with new posts.
Have a great week!

Floral Stripes

Finals complete, clean lockers, graduating classes...SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!
Yesterday was a huge sigh of relief as I exited the door of junior year. This outfit was perfect for that day: functional yet confident. Definitely a go-to uniform for the summer.
The floral necklace and gold loafers add a fun contrast to the black-and-white background of the rest of the outfit.

Fathers

Dad,
Although your eyes look closed, I know you're always looking out for me. Thank you for giving me the greatest gift of all: the gift of dreaming. Because of you, I will never stop chasing my dreams.

Happy Father's Day

Summer Salvation

Designers' Resort collections, school finals, and heat for days are my official summer alarms and they've been sounding like crazy this past week. My anticipation for summer is growing stronger and stronger with each day. I've got a lot planned, but for now I'm looking out for functional trends, summer staples and much inspiration.

$teep vs. Cheap: Birkenstocks

Since the comeback of Birkenstocks, the world's most beloved comfort shoe, I have seen them EVERYWHERE! Knockoffs, the originals, you name it, it seems everyone either has or has remade a pair.
These sturdy-bottomed, leather-topped sandals are functional and quite fabulous nowadays. Worn with anything from high waisted shorts to a cocktail dress, I'd say Birkenstocks are the shoe of the summer. . . but are they worth breaking the bank for?
Many brands have tried their hand at creating the perfect replica (Zara and Kate SpadeNY to name a few), but my favorite knock off is from Topshop.
The differences are limited in two shoes; both seem to have a comfort footbed, and cork sole. Both are fully-equipped with a silver buckle and white leather. Although the colors are mismatched on the footbed and sole, they are quite similar.
In this case, I saw cheap stumps $teep!

Recreation: Collared Dresses

Zara Jewel Print Dress (last seen here), H&M Sleeveless BlouseHunter Boots

I've seen a lot of printed summer dresses with contrating collars lately (like this colorful example from Marc by Marc Jacobs or this floral number from The Hut), so today, I decided to recreate the look myself! I love this look because it creates a casual juxtaposition with this printed cocktail dress.

Aztec

Forever 21 Aztec Overalls (old - last seen here!), Express Tee, Rue 21 Statement Necklace, Target Mossimo Lace up Booties (old - similar here)

These overalls barely get any airtime, so this morning I decided to show a little more leg and spice things up to give these aztec wonders their due justice. With the overall shorts as a big trend this season, it seemed like the perfect day to dust them off. They're fun and light and I always feel a notch more confident in it.

Silver Accents

The hair, oh the hair!
I've got the curls on 1000 this week and I'm loving it! Each day I try an outfit that will either match the drama and fierceness of the curls or I the exact opposite. Yesterday was an opposite day; the crimped curls and clean cut of the outfit provide a fun juxtaposition. This outfit went from church to brunch (at the delicious Red Hen) and felt comfortable the whole way.
