Breaking the Rules: SneakerHead

SneakerHead

I can never be sure if it's dressing up the sneaker or dressing down the outfit, but whichever it is I'm in love! This branch off the normcore (a new trend we'll discuss in more detail later this week) trend is certainly something I love. I've seen a lot of this street style addition and enjoy grabbing my own pair of sneaks to go with a dressy outfit. Not only does this give the ensemble a new element of fun and surprise, but it makes walking much easier than if I were to grab a set of pumps!

What do you think? Cute . . . or naw?

Birthday

Special days deserve a special outfit. Sunday was my special day because not only was it Mother's Day, it was also my birthday! This outfit was comfortable from church to brunch to the streets. It was breathed enough in the hot heat of the weekend, but it was pulled together well enough to be memorable and fun.

Mothers

This Mother's Day - and 17th birthday - I am realizing the greatness of the women in my life, especially the magnificent wonders of these two (my mother and grandmother). There is a resilience, grace and quietly conquering nature that resides in my grandmother that has been passed down to my mother and is hidden somewhere in myself that I am so grateful for this day. I am so blessed to have such strong women in my life and even more blessed to be following in their footsteps.

Happy Mother's Day to all to the mothers of the world who inherit and pass on the beauty of life.

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Mother's Day - and my birthday - is quickly approaching, and if you haven't found the perfect gift for mommy here's some great suggestions.
Monogram, monogram, monogram! These stamped initials seem to be popping up everywhere; pajamas, anoraks, jewelry. While I like the idea of wearing my name, especially if it's on this BaubleBar Acrylic Necklace, I think mother would enjoy her letters printed on something more useful. These jewelry holders are so dainty and personalized; this Engravable Silver Jewelry Box from Pottery Barn and this Soft Surroundings monogrammed jewelry plate are both timeless pieces to gracefully display mom's favorite accessories.
Another unique idea is a subscription to mom's favorite magazine! Elle, Better Homes and Gardens, Essence are some great titles with a cheap subscription rate.
Another new rage is stylish portable phone chargers, like this cute colorblock one from Anthropologie.
Finally, you can carry all mom's new items in a structured tote. This one from J. Crew is basic and a great tote for everything from a plane carry on to a beach bag

Pleated Bows

Charlotte Russe Chiffon Top (old), Gap Pleated Mini (old - similar here and here), Report Buckled Booties (last seen here), Vintage Embroidered Box Bag, Vintage Jewlery

With great appreciation for the constant Spring weather, I pulled out a few old favorites today. The breathing chiffon feels so light and the multi-colored print matches perfectly with the deep blue of the pleat skirt. Milkmaid braids, a tied bow and my grandmother's box bag polish the outfit off with a fun flare.

Sunny Surprises

This lovely pink blossoming tree adorning my driveway

The print on my grandmother's fabulous vintage scarf. Against the pretty pink flowers, this scarf looks better than it did around my neck!

New Springtime wardrobe additions; Bagatelle Neon Windbreaker (from Buffalo Exchange - similar here), Gap 1969 White Skinnies, Charlotte Russe Statement Necklace

This incredible guide to May's most necessary ensembles. That green crochet clutch looks like it was made by fashion angels, no?

Annnnnnd beginning the countdown to my birthday!
