Two Thousand Thirteen . . . xoxo, Kay

Thank you, 2013.

Thank you for all the beauty you revealed, all the change you surprised me with, and all the hope you carried.

From tropical family vacations
to dinner dates with my friends . . .

From trying new things
to putting old habits to rest . . .

From dancing all night . . .
to continuing to dance all night

Life is such a blessing, and each new year is a chance to reflect and anticipate the blessings to come.

Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas

MERRY CHRISTMAS! It is my sole prayer this holiday season that we all will enjoy every passing moment - whether nestled near the tree (in fuzzy Christmas socks) or around the table surrounded by loved ones - and we would appreciate the greatest gift of all and one another.

Miraculous Mondays

Lunch after the gym with my two favorite guys :)

I think I've found a new hobby. Making these personal DIY greeting cards for my friends and family has been so much fun! . . . more to come!

Girls' Night Out with some of my favorite ladies at the Cheesecake Factory last night. Such a blessing they are - I love you gals :)

I'm just filled with this holiday spirit! Christmas time is so special; families get together, love seems to be falling from the sky like snowflakes and we get to celebrate the best gift of all: the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! What a miracle! I'm so grateful for all the people and all the love in my life, the gifts and material things are certainly welcome, but all of that is simply icing on an already magnificent cake!

Sunday's Pretty Icons: Jessica Alba

From the grocery store to the red carpet, Jessica Alba never seems to miss a beat in guiding the trends of the season. Alba's style blends a biker chic touch to the All-American design while still embodying the delicate touches of femininity. . . and she mixes colors like a paintbrush! *corny joke, I know* Really though, her colorblocking is nothing less than phenomenal.

With the help of super-stylist, Rachel Zoe, Alba plays up each outfit as if it's her last. This actress, model, philanthropist and co-founder of The Honest Company reminds us that she can look good in almost anything; whether it be a mock-neckline or a paper bag. Jessica Alba is definitely the coolest mom on the block, and we'll be sure to keep up with her ever-alluring fashion statements.

Polka Dots and A Christmas Box

JCrew Factory Polka Dot Charley Sweater, Topshop Rose Gold Horseshoe Necklace, Forever 21 Denim Jeans, Target Gold Sequin Loafers (old, but similar here and here)

I wore this outfit on Wednesday and had a ball! Not only is it bright - I'm discovering I like bright colors - but this sweater is so cozy and casual yet has the perfect touch of festivity! This week I'm working on wearing more colorful pieces in light of the holidays, so this was a nice mid-week piece.

Wishful Wednesday

As Christmas quickly approaches - only ONE week away - I've been thinking a lot about how beautiful the snow-covered driveways are, the time with my family I'll have around the tree . . .
AND MY GIFTS! :)

Friendly Fridays

Nordstrom Tiger Eyelash Sweater, Nordstrom Black & Gold Bauble Necklace, Forever 21 Floral Print Skirt, DV by Dolce Vita 'Sandie' Boot

I love this! From the eyelash sweater to the grungy Dolce Vita boots, this outfit is trendy and has a fierce personality. My friend always knows how to put it together. Although she usually opts for a more refined look (Lauren Conrad is definitely her style sister) yesterday's ensemble was too fabulous to pass up!

Winter Uniform

Playing up a couple trends, and holding tight to my jacket, this outfit has become my winter uniform. The first trend I'm advertising is plaid! As mentioned in my Holiday Trend post, plaid is everywhere, but I love it most in those unexpected places - like my scarf! The other trend is mixing patterns. I was hesitant at firs,t bu then dove in and loved the creation.
This is such a great grab-and-go outfit; polished, colorful enough and appropriate for any occasion. I love the red and blue plaid against the cerulean in the blue printed pant.

Sick Days and Snowy Lanes

My lack of posting is not because of lost attention or a missing desire, but because I have a been feeling under the weather. Thank the Lord for the past two snow days, Netflix, Pinterest, Ginger Ale and Spotify. With a few more prayers, many more glasses of water and several listens to Kanye West 's "Bound 2", I - and KayKrew -should be back in business very soon :)

P.S. How beautiful is this snow??

Mournful Monday

Thursday, December 5th we lost a great man. Nelson Mandela was an innovator of peace, love and great change. His message and of unity affected not only the country of South Africa, but the world as a whole. I am thankful to have lived in a time when his name was presently spoken and I am grateful to now live in the legacy of his life.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas: Trends to look for this Holiday season

For some people, hearing a certain holiday tune will alert them the season of giving is near. For others the multi-colored lights and decorations lining each street will be their reminder. For me, I know it's Christmas time when my Pinterest is hopping with holiday outfits and shops are bursting at the seams with red and green. I just LOVE holiday outfits; the full skirts, the button ups and those special heels. Here are a few looks to try and some trends that are ruling the snow scene!

1. For this Christmas, I'm noticing a lot - a very lot - of sequins! Sequin skirts are all the buzz, pencil, midi, and maxi, as reported in November's Weekly Forecast! I love it, especially in so many different colors like the greens below.
2. Plaid. Plaid. PLAID! Plaid has been everywhere: tops, scarves, skirts, pants! Colorful plaid more specifically is a nice go-to for the holidays. Blue, red and green are my favorite plaid colors. It's bright and a button-up can be tucked into a colored pant or a pencil skirt, or even tied over a fit and flare dress!
3. Another biggy for holiday dressing is jacquard! Jacquard is cutest to me when patterned on a simple black piece, whether it be a dress or a nice cut pant.
4. And it seems our (faux) furry trends are here to stay! Faux fur vests, shawls and accents are a must this holiday season. Throw it over a tucked-in plaid button-up or a plain sweater with a skinny belt and you're complete!
